Charli XCX and the 1975’s George Daniel were married Saturday at a ceremony at London’s Hackney Town Hall following a 19-month engagement.
Photos of the pair in wedding attire and surrounded by family and friends first surfaced on social media Saturday, with People reporting the singer born Charlotte Aitchison and her longtime boyfriend Daniel tied the knot during an “intimate ceremony” that included some of Daniel’s the 1975 band mates.
The London wedding came as a surprise to fans as sources close to the singer said as recently as this month that XCX and Daniel were planning to marry in Italy. “Charli and George fell in love with Sicily and knew they wanted to get married there,” the source told The Sun. “It’s incredibly secluded and romantic. There will be no expense spared. It’s costing tens of thousands of pounds and visually it will be mesmerizing. Charli and George said they wanted a massive party and there are no restrictions on when the bar has to close, so it can go on all night.”
However, it appears that the couple opted for a low-key, daytime affair with close family and friends and not a Brat Tour-sized celebration.
After first collaborating together on No Rome’s “Spinning” in 2021, Charli and Daniel began dating in 2022 and announced their engagement in November 2023, while XCX was working on what would become Brat.
“We want to impress each other, and we think we’re both really good, but I’m actually such a bitch in the studio with George,” Charli told Rolling Stone UK in 2024. “Because we’re obviously so close, you lose everything in terms of the normal studio boundaries.”
