The 50 Greatest Australian Electronic Acts of All Time
Australians love electronic and dance music, and our country has no shortage of innovative artists who’ve shaped the scene both at home and abroad

Australians love a party. In a club, on a beach, in a forest. Bring it on. Australians also love electronic and dance music, and our country has no shortage of innovative artists who’ve shaped the scene both at home and abroad.
It’s a claim that’s measurable. According to recently issued data from Spotify, Aussie dance cuts were streamed over 1 billion times internationally in the month of March 2025 alone, confirming it as the single most popular genre from these parts.
Also, the most recent IMS Business Report found that Australia is the third largest market in the world for electronic music, trailing only the United States and Germany. Australians stream, on average, more of the genre than any other nations, the publication’s authors explain.
The love goes in both directions. Carl Cox digs Australia so much, he created a F.A.C.T. Australia beat-mixed compilation, and he now calls the Great Southern Land his home.
And thanks to the pioneering work of Peter Vogel and Kim Ryrie, the inventors of the Fairlight CMI, the world’s first commercially-available digital sampling synthesizer, Australia moved the needle on electronic music.
With guidance from an esteemed electronic music industry panel, Rolling Stone AU/NZ has selected 50 outstanding electronic music artists and DJs who have made a substantial impact, trailblazers who built the scene through performances, hits, or just flat-out great works of art. —Lars Brandle
