Calum Hood Is the Last 5SOS Member to Go Solo. His Debut Album Is Worth the Wait

The 5 Seconds of Summer member breaks out on his own for a diverse debut solo LP exploring indie-pop, new wave, and more

Calum Hood

Sarah Eiseman

5 Seconds of Summer’s Calum Hood is the last member of the band to produce solo material, and it’s been worth the wait.

Despite finding success in the Sydney pop-punk group, Hood’s debut album, ORDER chaos ORDER, is a complete departure. Created primarily alongside Jackson Phillips of US project Day Wave, Hood’s album finds inspiration from 2000s European bands like Phoenix, M83, and Teddybears, as well as alternative rock icons such as Bloc Party, Radiohead, and Interpol.

The result is a raw insight into Hood’s life, revealing a side of himself he admits he could never explore with 5SOS. He blends everything from indie-pop to synth to new wave, all complemented by deeply personal lyrics.

Hood’s heart lies with 5SOS, but he may just have to balance it with his solo career moving forward if this lands as it should with fans.
