Amyl And the Sniffers are hunting a hattrick at the 2025 AIR Awards.

Announced today, May 13th, the globetrotting punk rockers collect nominations for independent album of the year and best independent rock album or EP, both for their third studio about Cartoon Darkness.

The ARIA, APRA and Rolling Stone Australia Award winners are also a chance for AIR’s independent song of the year for “U Should Not Be Doing That”, a prize winner at the APRA Music Awards last month.

The all-conquering four-piece are enjoying rare form on the awards trail. In recent weeks and months, the band nabbed two Rolling Stone Australia Awards and snagged the March cover of the magazine, headlined Coachella, landed a Brit Award nomination for best international group, and “U Should Not Be Doing That” collected the peer-voted song of the year award at the APRAs.

Producer Alice Ivy is also on track for four AIR Awards, with nods for independent song of the year and best independent dance, electronica or club single (for “Do I Need To Know What Love Is?” featuring Josh Teskey), best independent dance or electronica album or EP (Do What Makes You Happy) and independent producer of the year.

Ivy won for writer producer of the year at the 2025 MPEG Awards, presented February in Sydney.

Ocean Alley, Royel Otis and 3% are among the acts capturing multiple nominations at the 2025 AIR Awards, which “recognise, promote, and celebrate the success of Australia’s independent music sector,” reads a statement from organisers the Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR).

This year’s edition will be presented at the Adelaide Town Hall on Thursday July 31st, and is once again bookended by the annual Indie-Con industry pow-wow. As previously reported, US-based A2IM will take its Indie Week to Australia for an “historic event,” twinning its flagship gathering with AIR’s annual event for the first time. The AIR Awards and Indie Week are supported by the South Australian Government’s Music Development Office.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to recognise the work the independent music industry does in providing talented and emerging artists and music businesses with a platform to share their art with a wider audience,” comments minister for arts Andrea Michaels MP in a statement.

Focusing on issues affecting the independent music sector, AIR’s Indie-Con Australia Conference and A2IM’s Indie Week Australian Edition will be held from Wednesday, July 30th to Friday, August 1st at Mercury Cinema and will be followed by Scouted.
