Hosted on Rolling Stone AU/NZ for the second time, INTROS is back to introduce you to the best rising stars in New Zealand music.
Georgia Lines’ popular music web series sees the Kiwi pop singer-songwriter sitting down with her favourite female and non-binary artists for a relaxed kōrero. Each episode focuses on the artist’s chosen song, delving into the story behind the song and the process of writing, before the artist treats viewers to a live performance.
Next up in season four is Nikau Grace, a singer-songwriter whose talent belies her age.
Grace (who is of Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, and Te Arawa descent) first stepped onto a stage in her hometown of Kawerau at just 7-years-old – still only 17, she’s been impressing Kiwi listeners with her musical versatility, performing in genres from pop to blues-rock to even classical.
Grace released her latest single, “Rapua Te Mea Ngaro”, last year, a waiata born out of the Waiata Anthems Taumata programme.
“It is about the flame you have inside you that some people try to snuff out. But it’s your job to keep it burning. It’s a song about defying the odds … I want them to have a sense of positivity. They have the talent and the passion and they can do things no matter where you come from,” Grace said of her waiata.
A bright future in music clearly awaits Grace, which is what makes her an ideal guest for INTROS.
In episode three of the new season of INTROS, which you can watch above, Lines and Grace explore life and music in a thoughtful conversation. The latter also performs a stunning song for the host and her viewers.
Lines released her debut album, The Rose of Jericho, to wide acclaim last year. Rolling Stone AU/NZ gave it a four-star review, and The Rose of Jericho also featured prominently in our 50 Best New Zealand Albums of 2024 list. The album is nominated for the 2025 Taite Music Prize.
