Fred again… has finally teamed up with Angie McMahon after sampling her music several years ago.
The British EDM producer once sampled the Australian singer-songwriter’s tracks “Pasta” and “Angie (i’ve been lost)” on his debut album Actual Life, back in 2022.
Fred again.. once named McMahon as one of his favourite singers ever via an Instagram story.
A fan of her mantra-like lyrics, Fred again.. reinterpreted McMahon’s closing song “Making It Through” from her latest album Light, Dark, Light Again. The album reached #3 on Rolling Stone AU/NZ‘s Best Australian Albums of 2023 list.
The new single “light dark light” explores the spectacle of live music, using phone recordings from the crowd at one of McMahon’s performances.
“Just as feelings and experiences should continue to rise and fall and ebb and flow, I think the message on this song is that everything we feel is beautiful, and also difficult, and also as it should be,” she said about the song.
McMahon won the ARIA Award for Best Independent Release this year, and Fred Again… sold nearly a quarter of a million tickets on his pop-up arena tour earlier this year.
Fred again.. recently released another song called little mystery, inspired by John Martyn’s Sweet Little Mystery, and light dark light featuring Angie McMahon, a reinterpretation of her song, Making It Through.
Fred.. again and Angie McMahon’s “light dark light” is out now.
