Months after receiving a resounding response to her Youtube cover of “Home” by Good Neighbours, Meg Mac has released her version.
The Australian singer-songwriter shared the heart-stirring video of her cover in June, prompting many of her fans to call for its official release across streaming platforms.
“Home” was originally released in January of this year by the British indie pop-rock duo Good Neighbours, which amassed over 300 million streams on Spotify alone.
Mac presents a deconstructed version, absent of the heavy percussion of the original. This choice allows her powerful vocals to ride the song’s emotive peaks and troughs with ease.
“I’ll still love you, head to toe,” Mac promises in the song. The cover is a family affair, with Mac’s sister Hannah lending backing vocals.
Mac performed her rendition of “Home” on tour with R&B singer Teddy Swims in July. “I said to Hannah we should play it live and if people like it maybe we could release our version one day… so we played it every night opening for Teddy Swims in Australia and NZ and we got a release date,” Mac says.
Before “Home”, Mac collaborated with Matt Corby on their collaborative single “Bricks”. In October, she headlined the all-ages and free party Valley Fiesta in Brisbane, the Queensland capital’s biggest annual party.
As well as dropping her new single last week, Mac also announced a partnership with MINI, part of the BMW Group.
“Ever since I was a kid I haven’t been able to go for a drive without pointing out every MINI I see on the road,” she shared in a statement about becoming a brand ambassador for MINI Australia. “I’ve always been charmed by their classic design. To be joining this iconic brand and in the driver’s seat feels perfect.”
Meg Mac’s “Home” is out now via Universal Music.
