Ocean Alley’s first single in two years is here.
“Tangerine” is the long-awaited follow-up to the psychedelic rock’s well-received 2022 album, Low Altitude Living. The song marks a first-time collaboration with producer Nick DiDia (Pearl Jam, Powderfinger, Rage Against the Machine).
Ocean Alley’s lead singer Baden Donegal shares, “We drove across the Nullarbor with our wives and dogs. The long straight roads, the isolation and the different landscapes were intense and amazing. There was such contrast between the red dirt and crystal blue ocean. Seeing parts of the desert and sunsets on that commute, the sky turning orange, or tangerine, is what really inspired this song.”
The accompanying music video, shot during their North American tour in Billings, Montana, captures the song’s expansive and free-spirited vibe, directed by Jamieson Kerr. You can watch it below.
Ocean Alley might not have released any new music since 2022, but they’ve been very busy on the touring front since Low Altitude Living.
After a year of global touring and over 65,000 tickets sold in Australia, they’ll close out 2024 with a string of festival dates, including Ability Fest, VAILO Adelaide 500, and Changing Tides Festival.
Ocean Alley also featured in the first artist announcement for Bluesfest 2025. They feature on the lineup alongside the likes of busker-turned-pop superstar Tones and I, genre-hopping US musician Gary Clark Jr., soulful English singer Rag’n’Bone Man, and rising country star Brad Cox also feature in the first wave of artists.
And fittingly for Bluesfest’s big finale, the festival has booked plenty of exclusive performances from the likes of Here Come the Mummies, Taj Farrant, The California Honeydrops, and Cimafunk.
It’s currently unclear if “Tangerine” will feature on a new Ocean Alley album. Low Altitude Living received positive reviews upon its release two years ago, including from Rolling Stone AU/NZ.
