NO CIGAR have started 2024 in style with the release of a captivating music video for their track, “Father of Mine”.
The video, which is premiering on Rolling Stone AU/NZ below, was directed, filmed, and edited by Tim Cotton. The black and white clip was impressively filmed as a single shot in the Abney Park Cemetery in London, which reflected the suddenness of the track’s recording, which came together as “essentially one take.”
“The half-speed video plays into the anticipatory nature of the song – you can sense some sort of epicness is brewing throughout, which manifests in Willy’s performance in both the song and video,” says the band’s Arthur Gillies.
Abney Park Cemetery was chosen as the filming location on NO CIGAR’s last day before returning to Aotearoa, after having tried multiple other backdrops during their week at London’s Battery Studios. You can watch the video for the first time below.
“Father of Mine” was a standout track on NO CIGAR’s latest album, The Great Escape, released last year to positive reviews. The band will be performing the album around their home country and Australia next month (see full dates below).
NO CIGAR’s big 2023 also included a nomination for Best New Artist at the 2023 Panhead Rolling Stone Aotearoa Awards. The band will be in with a chance of being nominated again at this year’s Rolling Stone Aotearoa Awards on the strength of The Great Escape.
NO CIGAR’s The Great Escape is out now.
