Acclaimed indie rock trio Camp Cope have announced a short Aotearoa tour for early next year.
The Melbourne outfit will perform in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland and Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington at the end of January (see full details below). Tickets for the two shows are on sale now via the band’s official website.
Camp Cope have been touring the world in support of their new album Running with the Hurricane, which reached number 11 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
Critical reaction was just as strong, with the Rolling Stone review hailing the band for channelling “heartbreak, failed expectations and insecurity into an intimate collection of tender-hearted indie rock.”
In a 4/5 review, Kerrang! wrote “it’s music for the loveliest of golden summer evenings, but has a greater depth to it that reveals itself with more and more listens, as if it’s coming out of its own shell. And when it does, it’s nothing but wonderful.”
“Shifting away from the gnawing, emo-inflected power-pop of their first two albums, the Melbourne trio ask: Can softness be as invigorating as fury?” noted Pitchfork.
Georgia Maq, Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich and Sarah Thompson will visit New Zealand following a successful run of 2022 tour dates in the US, which saw singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus join them for several shows.
And they could top off their huge year by winning at the upcoming Music Victoria Awards: the trio are nominated for Best Group, with the winner set to be announced in December.
Running with the Hurricane was also long-listed for the prestigious Australian Music Prize, with the organisers lauding the album as being “Camp Cope’s most complex and accomplished record yet. It’s somehow both raw and polished, with layered vocals and a fuller sound than their previous offerings. Lyrically, still as powerful as ever.”
