It was only a little while ago that Victorian artists Harrison Storm and Enna Blake shared their fruits of their collaborative labor by way of the masterful “Under Dusk”, but as they continue to pool their talents, they’ve delivered yet another stunning track thanks to “Eyes Wide”.
Released just a few weeks ago, Storm and Blake found themselves weathering the events of these past 18 months within an oceanside share house, living and creating together as a means of getting by. As such, the pair’s musical talents soon combined, allowing them to channel their isolation into something truly beautiful.
“It was a great challenge artistically, to have limited resources and still create,” Storm explained. “We were very fortunate to be living in such a beautiful area.”
While “Under Dusk” was a mesmerising piece of work that allowed the public to connect with the pair, it’s latest track “Eyes Wide” that proves just how strong this collaboration is.
The stirring instrumental mixes with both artists’ sublime voices to create this masterful piece of work that urges the listener to find their happiness, even if it requires a struggle mixed with some patience.
“Harrison came to me with this budding idea for a song that he was stuck with,” explains Blake. “What stood out to me, in particular, was this lyric he had written ‘Will my roses come up?’ This image of someone sitting there waiting for roses to grow really stuck with me.
“It was a big part of the inspiration for what the song grew into, which is really about the struggle to find your own happiness, your own path. This duality of being active and planting your seeds, watering your roses, while sitting back and letting them grow.”
“I had the guitar idea and a verse melody/lyrics of this song laying around for a while, but it didn’t seem to want to go anywhere and felt quite stuck,” explained Storm. “It wasn’t until I showed it to Enna that she breathed a whole new life into it and helped it blossom into the song it is today.
“Ultimately it is a song about the struggle to find your own happiness and the patience required in nurturing aspects of yourself that gently push you in the right direction.”
With the artists going through this great period of musical and personal change, both Storm and Blake found themselves studying acting, voice, and and a well-being method called PEM (Perdekamp Emotional Method) which allowed them to work on their mental health and emotional well-being. As such, the pair managed to connect on a deeper level, which finds itself shining on the likes of “Eyes Wide”.
