Having previously unveiled latest single “Guided by Angels” earlier this month, Melbourne outfit Amyl and The Sniffers have continued their string of new material, unveiling the ferocious “Security” overnight.
Premiering on BBC Radio 1’s Future Sounds with Annie Mac, the fiery track sees vocalist Amy Taylor showcasing her impassioned, powerful vocals as she makes a plea to security to let her in to where she wishes to go. “I’m not looking for trouble, I’m looking for love,” Taylor shouts. “Will you let me in your hard heart, let me in your pub.”
Meanwhile, the clip again sees Taylor’s movements at the front and centre, with the group again sharing a John Angus Stewart-directed video which this time sees Taylor practicing her dance moves in a Melbourne cemetery.
Both “Guided by Angels” and new single “Security” are set to appear on Amyl and The Sniffers’ forthcoming second album, Comfort to Me, when it arrives in early October. With the group finding themselves in the same house in the midst of the pandemic, it allowed them more time to focus on their music than previously, with the resultant album feeling much like what fans would expect from the band, albeit with a little bit more world-weariness.
“The nihilistic, live in the moment, positivity and panel beater rock-meets-shed show punk was still there, but it was better,” explains Taylor. “The whole thing was less spontaneous and more darkly considered.”
With Comfort to Me set to be released in early October, Amyl and The Sniffers are also set to launch the record with a livestream performance which will see them play the album “in full, in one take, on a slab of concrete in a suburban wasteland somewhere in Melbourne, Australia”.
