Nearly six months on from its supplementary event, Support Act have announced the details of its traditional November Ausmusic T-Shirt Day event.
Happening for the second time in 2020, the forthcoming event is set to take place on Friday, November 20th, at the end of the third week of Ausmusic Month.
While serving as a nation-wide celebration of Australian music, Ausmusic T-Shirt Day exists to help raise desperately needed funds for Support Act. An earlier edition of the fundraising event was held back in mid-April, being announced as a means of aiding Support Act, whose services were pushed to the limit due to the appearance of a global pandemic.
A press release announced today noted that requests for Crisis Relief having increased by 883% since the pandemic began, while calls to the Support Act Wellbeing Helpline have increased by 52%.
“If there is one thing our donors and supporters have been telling us since the start of the pandemic, it’s how much they miss live music,” explained Support Act CEO Clive Miller.
“They also get that artists, crew and music workers have been doing it tough. Ausmusic T-Shirt Day is a great way to celebrate Australian music and the people who create it, while raising funds to ensure that Support Act can continue to provide desperately needed services to our friends and colleagues in need.”
As is tradition, Ausmusic T-Shirt Day encourages fans around the country to pick out their favourite t-shirt from a local artist, with those who take part also encouraged to donate via the official website.
This year also sees the event partnering with TikTok to encourage users to make videos representing their favourite artists, while the campaign also features a new logo, featuring The Binz, designed by First Nations artist, Bree “Little Butten” Buttenshaw.
“When thinking about Ausmusic T-Shirt Day, I was thinking about what music means to me,” Buttenshaw explains. “So I asked a few friends what is important to them in this current climate. So I combined a lot of that into this bird boy. This ibis boy is a deadly guy. He enjoys surfing, music, cares about our sacred land, loves having a good time and is just a general all round good bloke.”
The 2020 edition also features a number of Launch Ambassadors to help kick off the campaign, including the likes of Keith Urban, Missy Higgins, Briggs, The Teskey Brothers, Nathan Cavaleri, Alex the Astronaut, Ruel, Jaguar Jonze, Greta Bradman, and Simon Tedeschi.
“Raising funds for musicians, crew and music workers has never felt more important than in 2020,” explained Keith Urban in a statement. “I want to do what I can to support local music…let’s kickstart Ausmusic T-shirt Day by all getting involved!!”
Ausmusic T-Shirt Day will officially take place on Friday, November 20th, with more event and fundraising details available from the official website.
