With just days to go until the release of her upcoming EP, Tkay Maidza has revealed it will be accompanied by the video for new single “You Sad”.
Announced via her social media accounts earlier today, Tkay noted that “You Sad” will be released on Friday, August 7th. Featuring production from Dan Farber, and showcasing a decidedly breezier sound (at least in its teaser clip), the track will also feature on Tkay’s Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2 EP on that same day.
“You Sad” will serve as the third single from the acclaimed artist, following on from the release of “Shook” and the Kari Faux-featuring “Don’t Call Again”, which was released just last month. Meanwhile, singles such as “Awake” and “IDC IF U BE DED” followed on from the first in EP in the series, with the former set to also appear on the forthcoming EP.
Speaking upon the release of the video to “Don’t Call Again” last month, video co-director Jordan Kirk discussed how the fun-loving clip managed to come about despite a world in lockdown.
“We got to have a little bit of fun for this video,” Kirk explained. “Isolation and lockdown measures meant that there were a number of limitations, but we leaned into this, with Tkay shooting everything in her bedroom over Facetime calls, and then having the team at Babekuhl create animation around the live action footage.
“We were lucky that this style of clip meant that we could also incorporate Kari Faux properly, with her shooting her part in Arkansas and sending the footage to us.”
Although Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2 serves as the second part in a trilogy of EPs, there is currently no word as to when the final volume will be released.
Tkay Maidza’s Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2 will be released on August 7th, with pre-saves available now.
