Australian dance festival Hypersonic has been cancelled just weeks out.
The event, which was to go ahead in Melbourne and Sydney this month, only launched last year.
“We are devastated to confirm that hypersonic Sydney and Melbourne will not be going ahead in 2026,” organisers said in a statement.
“Due to scheduling conflicts, Melbourne was moved to a Friday this year. Unfortunately, this change hasn’t worked out as hoped for an all-day festival. The flow-on impact has meant we can no longer deliver the festivals to the standard our artists and audience deserve.
“We are gutted. We sincerely apologise for the disappointment and thank everyone who has supported hypersonic.”

Rolling Stone AU/NZ has contacted PR for the festival about whether it will return in 2027.
Dutch star Armin van Buuren was scheduled to headline both events for the second straight year, and was to be joined by the likes of W&W, Showtek, Timmy Trumpet, Hybrid Minds, Cyril, Pendulum (DJ Set) and Charlotte Haining.
Hypersonic – produced by Symbiotic, which ran Stereosonic – launched in Melbourne and Sydney last year, with Van Buuren headlining a bill that included Alesso, Steve Aoki, MaRLo, Adam Beyer, Aaron Hibell, KREAM and more.
Symbiotic, one of Australia’s leading specialist trance event companies, is led by CEO Richie McNeill and fellow director Janette Bishara.
McNeill is a leading figure in Australia’s electronic music scene, both as the DJ Richie Rich and as an entrepreneur. He managed Mushroom’s leading dance distributor, founded Hardware, and co-founded the much-loved and now defunct Stereosonic, the dance music juggernaut which at its peak could shift more than a quarter million tickets.
Bishara, meanwhile, boasts experience producing such events as Armin Only, A State Of Trance, ABGT150, Above and Beyond Acoustic at the Sydney Opera House and more.
Symbiotic has toured such acts as MaRLo, Vini Vici, Maddix, Billy Gillies, Paul van Dyk, Above & Beyond and more, and has presented Transmission Festival, Dreamstate USA, MaRLo Altitude and Festival X.
