Anderson .Paak and Cordae Join Forces for New Album ‘Heavy Is the Crown’

nderson .Paak and Cordae release their joint album ‘Heavy Is the Crown’, featuring production from J. Cole, Swizz Beatz and 9th Wonder

Anderson .Paak and Cordae have joined forces for Heavy Is the Crown, an 11-track collaborative album that brings together two of hip-hop’s most distinctive voices.

Released via APESHIT / Hi Level / EMPIRE, the project draws on the pair’s longstanding friendship and creative chemistry, balancing sharp lyrical exchanges and introspective moments with a healthy dose of humour.

The album also boasts an impressive production lineup, with J. Cole behind “Karma Taxx”, Swizz Beatz contributing to “Godfather II”, Conductor Williams producing “Crown”, and 9th Wonder taking the reins on “You’re Mine”.

Production duo FNZ lend their talents to “Helpless” and “I’m On”, with the latter also featuring production from Hollywood Cole.

While the project brings together some heavyweight names, .Paak and Cordae aren’t taking themselves too seriously. The album artwork pays homage to cult comedy Step Brothers, reflecting the playful dynamic at the heart of their partnership.

That approach was established with lead single “A Good Day”, which arrived alongside a comedic trailer and an accompanying music video starring Jennifer Freeman.

The clip has since surpassed four million views on YouTube, while the track has cracked the Top 25 at rhythmic radio and attracted attention from publications including Billboard, Stereogum, Essence and XXL.

The release marks another collaborative chapter for nine-time Grammy winner .Paak, whose work alongside Bruno Mars as Silk Sonic earned four Grammy Awards for their hit “Leave the Door Open”.

More recently, his NxWorries project with producer Knxwledge took home Best Progressive R&B Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards for Why Lawd?.

Cordae, meanwhile, has built a reputation for blending classic hip-hop influences with contemporary production and thoughtful lyricism. His Grammy-nominated debut album, The Lost Boy, helped establish his place in the genre, with subsequent collaborations spanning Eminem, Lil Wayne, H.E.R., Stevie Wonder and .Paak himself.

Alongside the digital release, the duo have announced a special alternate-cover vinyl edition of Heavy Is the Crown, featuring original artwork by contemporary artist Lauren Halsey. The exclusive physical release is available through heavyisthecrown.net.

Australian fans will have an opportunity to catch .Paak in 2027, when he returns to the country supporting Bruno Mars on ‘The Romantic Tour’ in February and March as his DJ alter ego, DJ Pee .Wee.
