Having just kicked off his Australia and New Zealand tour in Auckland this week, the revered comedian joined the show ahead of the run to talk all about his ‘Hypothetical’ stand-up tour and his first visit on our shores in seven years.

Appearing on ‘Flight of the Conchords’ in 2007
“That was like one of the first times I ever acted. I had no idea what I was doing. Those Conchords guys, I used to open up for them on tour, and I knew them, and they were kind enough to ask me to do this.”
“I think it was really the first real legit thing. I knew those guys, and I had a vague idea. I wasn’t a complete goof, but yeah, I was very green.”
Starring as Kash Patel on ‘SNL’
“I happened to be in New York, and that article came out about that guy, Kash Patel. And I’m friendly with people on the show. So I texted Colin Jost. I said, ‘Hey, I saw this, and someone told me there’s all this stuff on the internet about me playing this guy. Just so you know, I’m in town. I think it’d be really funny.'”
“I didn’t hear anything by Friday. And then he texted me late Friday afternoon, like maybe five o’clock. He was like, ‘Hey, Lorne loves it! Can you be here at like 10.30 for rehearsal?'”

Making comedy films in 2026
“It’s hard to get movies made. It’s a tricky time in the film industry to make comedy and movies for adults. It’s also challenging because everybody wants you to have a big star in it, and there’s only so many stars, and there are only so many stars that make sense for the thing you’ve written.
“I was so excited to see a proof of concept of a comedy for adults working in theatres. We just need a couple more of those.
“There’s just less money being spent on cinemas, and they don’t tend to be spent on comedies, and these people are just trying to minimise risk.”
