It’s official – a new A.B. Original album is on the way.
During an interview with Rolling Stone AU/NZ, after delivering a keynote at the 2026 BIGSOUND conference in Brisbane, award-winning Indigenous rapper Trials dropped the shock news.
“It’s a great record. It’s done,” he said.
“I sent the demos off last week. It’s been recorded over the last couple of years, [in] Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, a little bit in America. It’s got a lot of guests on there that I can’t wait to talk about. That part I won’t say out loud, but holy moly…I wish I could!”
While he couldn’t share exactly when the album will be coming out, Trials teased that it will be released in the very near future.
It was widely assumed in recent years that A.B. Original was put on ice. While Trials recently released his debut solo album, hendle, Briggs last year launched new hardcore punk band, BIG NOTER, who are set to release their first album, Songs in the Key of Wrestling, on September 18th.
Following their formation in 2016, Briggs and Trials’ A.B. Original blew up with their debut album, Reclaim Australia, which picked up a string of APRA, AIR and ARIA Awards, including Best Independent Release, and won that year’s Australian Music Prize. One of the tracks on the album, “January 26,” was also a major influence in triple j moving its Hottest 100 countdown away from that date, starting in 2017.
