Hospital drama The Pitt took home the trophy for Best Television Series, Drama at the 2026 Golden Globes on Sunday.
As he walked to the stage to accept the award, series star Noah Wyle stopped to hug George Clooney, his former co-star on the 1990s megahit ER, their beloved forerunner in the genre of hyper-realistic medical shows.
Series creator R. Scott Gemmill thanked the “great village” of writers, cast, and crew who bring the show to life and shouted out the “first responders and healthcare workers who are the real heroes who inspire us.” He then thanked “everyone in this room” for telling stories that matter.
“We live in a very divided country,” he said, “but I think cinema, and I call TV cinema, brings us all together, not only as an audience but as a community. And we show people what we can do when a bunch of individuals, hundreds of us, have a common goal, and we work together with decency and humanity and just acceptance and respect for each other, and we can do amazing things. So thank you for that.”
The series was up against contenders The Diplomat, Pluribus, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus. Noah Wyle, who stars, writes, directs, and serves as executive producer on the show, also won the trophy for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a TV Show, Drama. The beloved show was created by ER alum R. Scott Gemmill and is produced by longtime ER showrunner John Wells, along with Wyle.
Rolling Stone praised The Pitt for reviving a TV formula on life support during a “post-Peak TV era.” The first season spanned 15 episodes, and critic Alan Sepinwall declared that it was “a powerful reminder of why certain formulas are so durable, how satisfying they can still be when done well, and why we shouldn’t be so eager to throw out all of the things that have made TV TV for so long.”
Nikki Glaser hosted this year’s Golden Globes from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. The ceremony is being broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.
