The fall of 1987 gave us The Princess Bride, Three Men and a Baby, and Bruce Springsteen’s Tunnel of Love. It also marked a trying time for the Stranger Things crew, as seen in the new trailer for Season Five, Volume Two.

The new trailer kicks off where the Volume One finale left off, in which the Will Byers twist is revealed: He’s officially a sorcerer, unlocking his Eleven-like powers and tapping into the Demogorgon hive mind. “We failed. We never stood a chance,” Will (Noah Schnapp) tells his mom, Joyce (Winona Ryder). “It’s not over,” she tells him. “Not by a long shot.”

“Everything we have ever assumed about the Upside Down has been dead wrong,” Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) tells Steve (Joe Keery). The two friends then make a death pact, as Diana Ross’ disco classic “Upside Down” plays. The rest of the Hawkins gang is seen battling it out with evil, with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) setting out to murder Vecna once and for all.

Volume One of Stranger Things 5 — which arrived three years after the fourth season — was released on Nov. 26, Thanksgiving weekend (they unveiled the first five minutes earlier last month). Volume Two keeps in line with that holiday scheduling, arriving on Christmas Day (Dec. 25). The finale will air on New Year’s Eve, and screen in select theaters. The series wrapped production in Dec. 2024 with a reported 650 hours of footage.

The Volume One soundtrack, out now, features ABBA’s “Fernando,” Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” (which has a strong presence in the first installment), the Psychedelic Furs’ “Pretty in Pink,” and more. Hopefully, Ross’ “Upside Down” is featured in the Volume Two soundtrack.
