The Stranger Things cast will say one more proper goodbye as Netflix follows the series finale with the documentary, One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5. Premiering Jan. 12, the film will take viewers behind the scenes as the Duffer Brothers conclude complicated storylines for their characters and cry alongside their cast.
In the trailer for One Last Adventure, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Natalia Dyer, Sadie Sink, and more share an emotional response to some of the final pages of the Stranger Things script. In another scene, Millie Bobby Brown admits, “I’m not ready to let go.”
One Last Adventure follows both the cast and creators, who reflect on the legacy of the series that first launched in 2016. In five seasons across nearly a decade, Matt and Ross Duffer point out, the viewers at home have grown deeply attached to the characters on screen. They have, too. “Thank you for giving so much of yourselves,” Matt tells the cast in a tearful exit speech. “For all the laughs, the tears. We love you, always.”
Martina Radwan, who directed the documentary, told Netflix, “Spending a full year on set with them was a true privilege — and an absolute thrill. Being able to get close and watching them bring this beloved show to life in real time was pure joy. I only wish I could travel back in time and document Seasons 1-4.”
She added: “From the cast to their long-time collaborators, everyone welcomed me with remarkable generosity, openly sharing their personal and collective experiences from a decade of creative filmmaking. The Duffers always push boundaries and inspire everyone to be better, including myself. Their process and the show represent everything I love about filmmaking.”
The Duffer Brothers were inspired to capture the creation of the final season after recalling how influential the behind-the-scenes documentaries about The Lord of the Rings had been for them growing up. “If you love Stranger Things, or if you’re simply curious how a major Hollywood production comes to life,” they said, “this one’s for you.”
