Stephen Colbert was gleeful as he discussed the revelation that Donald Trump was reportedly named in the Jeffrey Epstein files on The Late Show. During his monologue, the host commented on a report in The Wall Street Journal that alleged Attorney General Pam Bondi told Trump his name was among many high-profile figures mentioned in the files during a meeting at the White House earlier this year.

“There’s been a lot of smoking guns in this case, but shortly before we taped this show, we got the smokiest yet — because The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that back in May, Attorney General Pam Bondi informed the president that his name was in the Epstein files,” Colbert explained before feigning shock. “What!” he added. “But he said he hardly knew the guy!”

Colbert rubbed his hands together in delight as he approached the camera and said, “He’s in the files! He’s in the files! Yay! Yay!” He continued, “You know how they say there’s no such thing as bad publicity? They’re not talking about this. The president wasn’t alone. An official familiar with the documents said they contain hundreds of other names. Of course, names like Donald Trump, Donald John Trump, Donald J. Trump, Donny Trump, Donald Trump Jr.’s Father, Big Daddy, Big Daddy Bronzer, aka the Donald, and a mystery man known only as micropenis DJT.”

He added, “If you’re worried you might be in the files, you’re in the files.”

Colbert reminded the audience that the new reporting comes on top of the newly-published photos of Trump with Epstein. “Do we really need more evidence that these guys were best buds?” the host asked, showing several images of the duo together and inviting viewers on a “walk down memory lane to the corner of Pervert Alley.” After displaying the pictures a second time, Colbert affirmed, “Look at Epstein. Even the way he appears in photos is creepy.”

The new Journal report comes as the Trump administration struggles to tamp down MAGA outrage over their handling of the case. Earlier this month, the DOJ and FBI released a joint memo announcing they would be closing the administration’s review of Epstein, affirming that the financier killed himself in jail, and declining to release additional material related to the case. The announcement triggered a revolt among the Republican base, which for months — if not years — had been teased with promises of transparency and additional prosecutions of individuals connected to Epstein once Trump returned to power.

Trump has responded to the backlash by repeatedly calling the Epstein files a “hoax,” claiming nonsensically that they were “made up” by Barack Obama and other Democratic figures. He bashed his supporters who still care about the “bullshit” case. The president has also attempted to distract citizens, as Colbert pointed out in his monologue.

Colbert also discussed Trump celebrating willing his lawsuit against 60 Minutes, CBS, and Paramount. The host noted that the network has lost over $40 million dollars in the lawsuit. “They better watch out,” he quipped, referencing The Late Show‘s recent cancellation. “They might get canceled. For purely financial reasons.”
