Almost six months after it was first announced, the second of four Spicks and Specks specials is set to air on the ABC later this month.

The announcement comes just one week after we marked 15 years since beloved Australian television show Spicks and Specks first graced our screens. Though often seen as a friendly rival alongside SBS quiz show RocKwiz, Spicks and Specks managed to curate a dedicated following before its original six-and-a-half year run wrapped up in 2011.

Hosted by Adam Hills and featuring regular team captains Myf Warhurst and Alan Brough, it served as a Wednesday night staple for many viewers, and a proper musical education for many of its younger fans.

While a short-lived (and poorly-received) revival took place back in 2014, fans of the original series found themselves treated to a one-off reunion special in 2018. Thankfully, there was still more in the tank, with the ABC announcing back in August that a series of four one-hour specials would be broadcast throughout the coming year.

“From the moment Alan, Myf and I were together in a room for last year’s Spicks And Specks Reunion Special, we had each other in fits of laughter,” explained host Adam Hills in a statement last year. “Any time I can spend with those two fools is time well spent, and if it takes four more specials to make that happen – so be it!

“The response to last year’s show was overwhelming, both in the studio when we filmed it, and at home when it went to air. Spicks And Specks has a special place in our hearts, and I’m genuinely excited to make a few more specials for the ABC.”

Though an Ausmusic Month episode arrived in November, details were unclear as to when viewers would receive the episodes that focused on music from the ’90s, ’00s, and ’10s.

As TV Tonight has now revealed, the Spicks and Specks ’90s Special is set to premiere at 7:40pm on Sunday, February 23 on the ABC.

Featuring famed singer songwriter Tina Arena, explosive Spiderbait drummer and singer Kram, and comedians Tom Gleeson and Anne Edmonds on the panel, the show is set to relive the music of the ’90s across its scheduled timeslot.

The show will also welcome comedians Denise Scott, Dave O’Neil, and Scott Edgar for their ‘Smells Like 90s Wardrobe’ segment, while the sporadically-active Dave Graney ‘n’ the Coral Snakes are set to reunite again to perform during the ‘Look What They’ve Done To My Song Ma’ segment.

Undoubtedly, the show’s finale looks set to be one of the most exciting pieces of Aussie TV on offer that night, with Tine Arena and Kram teaming up to perform a ’90s classic, mosh pit and all.

It’s currently unknown when the episodes dedicated to the ’00s and ’10s are set to air (or if the show may one day make a fully-fledged return), but this appears to be enough to tide us over for some time.
