Robert Irwin wasted little time putting some of Australian television’s biggest names in the firing line as he made history as the youngest-ever host of the Logies.
The 22-year-old opened the 66th Annual TV Week Logie Awards on Sunday night (August 16th), trading his usual wildlife duties for a monologue that took aim at some major Australian television personalities including Karl Stefanovic and Dave Hughes.
Irwin kicked off proceedings with a nod to his age – and the fact that he is competing for the Gold Logie on the same night he is hosting the ceremony. “I’m 22 years old, which officially makes me the youngest Logies host ever,” he told the room.
Among those in Irwin’s firing line was former Logies host Sam Pang, with the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! presenter joking about stepping into the comedian’s shoes after Pang hosted the ceremony for the previous three years. Irwin also turned his attention to Karl Stefanovic, and took a swipe at comedian Dave Hughes – a veteran of Logies opening monologues himself – as he worked his way through the room.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
With I’m a Celebrity… moving to another network, Irwin took a chance to take a dig. “I’m a positive guy, which is why I took it at face value when Channel 10 told me that I’m a Celebrity was having a great season, and its future at the network was totally secure. Lesson learnt,” he joked.

Sam Pang
“I grew up watching this ceremony. My mum would let me stay up way past my bedtime. I’d sit there in front of the telly, wide-eyed, just thinking, gee, Sam Pang is hilarious,” Irwin said.
Karl Stefanovic
Poking fun at one of the biggest exits of 2026, Irwin poked the Karl Stefanovic bear, stating that he failed to RSVP for the event despite being nominated for the Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter. “Unfortunately, Karl Stefanovic didn’t RSVP tonight,” he began. “Which means we didn’t have to hire as many bartenders, but we’ve got him a spare seat, just in case; it’s over there to the right… The far right.”
Dave “Hughesy” Hughes
With Dave “Hughesy” Hughes making headlines in the last couple of months over his brutal criticisms of the Albanese government – specifically negative gearing – and his recent confession of pissing in cups, Irwin made a jab. “Apparently Channel Ten is also developing a reboot of Hughesy We Have A Problem, and I think it’s called ‘No Seriously, Hughesy, We Have A Problem,’” Robert said.
Big Brother Australia
Alongside making fun of I’m A Celebrity…, Irwin also had some banter in the bag for the recent reboot of Network 10’s Big Brother, hosted by Mel Tracina.
