Nicole Kidman welcomes a new class of wellness hopefuls in the trailer for Nine Perfect Strangers Season Two. This time around, she is not more equipped to help them relax and release than she was in Season One.
Madness and manipulation run rampant at a retreat in the Austrian Alps where Kidman’s Masha Dmitrichenko serves as the resort director. The group of attendees has been specifically chosen, but none of them seem to know what invisible string is tying them all together. Some feel as though they’ve met somewhere before, but the details are hazy at best. Others believe it’s better that way. “When you keep an open mind, it leaves doors open for terrible things to,” Tina (King Princess) says in the trailer.
Season two welcomes King Princess to the cast alongside Henry Golding, Lena Olin, Annie Murphy, Christine Baranski, Lucas Englander, Murray Bartlett, Dolly de Leon, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Mark Strong, and Aras Aydin.
Kidman is the only consistent character in the series, which premiered in 2021. The show’s premiere coincided with the conclusion of The White Lotus Season One. In the time since, the HBO series has become a hit with three seasons of rich people trying (and failing) to run away from their problems. Nine Perfect Strangers is somewhat similar in format, if slightly less sinister in content.
“Though the show’s tone veers dramatically depending on who is at the center of a scene, the individual performances are fun and lively enough to frequently cover up how hollow the whole endeavor feels. But Masha is a big problem,” Rolling Stone‘s Alan Sepinwall wrote in a review of season one.
Nine Perfect Strangers returns to Prime Video in Australia on Thursday, May 22nd (May 21st on Hulu in the US). The series will premiere with two episodes before shifting to weekly episode releases for the remaining six.
