The salacious birthday card Donald Trump made for Jeffrey Epstein was the main subject of late-night shows last night, with the hosts commenting both on the scandal and on the president’s artistic skill.

On The Late Show, Stephen Colbert recapped the situation, recalling how Trump initially denied being part of Epstein’s infamous birthday book. “Earlier this summer the Wall Street Journal reported that back in 2003 Trump contributed to a book for Epstein’s 50th birthday, and the letter he wrote was a Picasso of pervitude,” Colbert said. He added that Trump sued the newspaper for $20 billion and called the letter “nonexistent.”

“Turns out, existent,” Colbert replied. “Because yesterday the House Oversight Committee released it and whoops-a-pubey. That sure as hell looks legit. It’s directly from the Jeffrey Epstein estate. It’s exactly what the Wall Street Journal reported and the signature identically matches a bunch of ones from the same era. And you know what they say: If it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck that duck should not be allowed within 300 yards of a school.”

The Late Show also aired a fake advertisement for a presidential drawing school.

On Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jimmy Kimmel explained how he was enjoying the “full MAGA freakout” that had ensued after the letter was released. “It’s turned into a gift that keeps on giving,” Kimmel said about the birthday book given to Epstein. “Not only does it contain the now-infamous creepy letter and drawing with Trump’s signature on it, it holds a number of disturbing pictures and notes.”

After describing how Republicans claimed that Trump couldn’t have drawn the letter because he’s not much of an artist, Kimmel responded, “Then he couldn’t have done it, right? He’s not much of an artist? What are you talking about? He’s an amazing artist. He’s a con artist. He’s a bullshit artist. He’s not an artist? He paints his whole face orange every day.”

On The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon remarked of the letter, “It is gross, but in Trump’s defense Hallmark really doesn’t have too many options in the ‘sex-trafficking friends turning 50’ section.”

On The Daily Show, Michael Kosta discussed the “creepy” birthday card and Trump’s ongoing denial of its existence. “Okay, okay, I know what we’re all thinking,” Kosta said after sharing an image of the card. “That’s an excellent drawing. I think Donald Trump might have a wonderful future as an artist.”

He turned to a second camera and whispered, “Now, obviously that’s a crappy drawing. But as a student of history one thing I’ve learned is when a certain type of person dreams of being a great artist we should encourage that instead.”
