Jon Stewart took aim at JD Vance on the latest episode of The Daily Show, criticising the vice president for his constant anti-immigrant rhetoric.
Stewart opened Monday night’s show with a clip of Vance responding to questions at a recent town hall. During the event, a woman asked Vance, “Why are you scapegoating immigrants for the issues you’re supposed to be solving as the vice president?” After Vance replied “I appreciate the question,” Stewart interjected that “in no way, not in any planet, not in any timeline does JD Vance appreciate that question.”
“He fucking hates that question,” Stewart added. “It makes his beard itch. And that might be your first tell that the answer this young woman is going to get is not going to be the real one.”
Vance told the woman, “To the extent my rhetoric has been imperfect here, that’s on me.” Stewart gasped. “Oh, is it your rhetoric?” the host asked. “Pobody’s nerfect. Sometimes you incite violence against vulnerable communities and then later on you apologise. I mean, we all read Mein Bad.”
He added, “So the dehumanising rhetoric against immigrants, which all of us thought was a cornerstone and intentional strategy of both Donald Trump and JD Vance’s rise to power, including falsely accusing an entire community of Haitian people of eating people’s pets, which Vance admitted was just a useful lie, actually, that wasn’t intentional. It was all just sloppy word choice. That was all on him.”
Stewart quipped that he was willing to take Vance at his word and he was sure the vice president would do be “the next time he an opportunity not to demonise immigrants.” That opportunity, in fact, came only days later when Vance blamed the riots in Paris over the weekend on, of course, immigrants.
Vance tweeted that “Western liberals imported the third world into France,” suggesting it’s also what Democrats want for the U.S. “I’m sorry Vance, are you seriously suggesting that immigrants have brought a culture of revolution and protest to France?” Stewart asked incredulously. “What are you talking about?” He added, “It’s like blaming immigrants in America for remembering the Alamo. Riots are just a part of the general ambiance of France.”

Last month, Vance pleaded with prospective voters during an appearance on the All In podcast. “Give us another chance,” Vance said. “Give us another couple years to continue to work on the amazing things that we’ve been doing for the past two years. Even if you don’t agree with us on every issue, the other party is consumed by craziness.”
