Jon Stewart recapped Donald Trump‘s trip to Scotland this week and the many ways the president attempted to deflect reporters from asking about Jeffrey Epstein.

On the latest episode of The Daily Show, Stewart noted that Trump did what anyone who was innocent would do: “He fled the country.” The host added that the president jetted over to Scotland not only to close his EU trade deal, but also to “gain an ocean’s distance between himself and the Epstein scandal.”

Of course, many of the reporters in Scotland asked about the Epstein scandal, which has now been plaguing Trump for weeks. Stewart played a clip of one reporter asking, “Mr. President, was part of the rush to get this deal done to knock the Jeffrey Epstein story out?” To which a surprise Trump replied, “Oh you got to be kidding…”

“He’s all like, ‘How did you even hear about it?’ I thought you guys just got Baywatch like three months ago?’” Stewart replied. “‘Doesn’t anybody here have a question about this trade deal sinking both of our economies with tariffs? How high do I have to make the tariffs before you guys shut the fuck about Epstein?’”

Stewart pointed out that it’s hard for the media to move when “even Trump has trouble doing so.” He recounted several of Trump’s rebuttals to being accused of being in the Epstein files, including him saying, “Those files were run by the worst scum on Earth. If they had something, they would have released [it]. Now, they can easily put something in the files that’s a phony.”

“It’s simple,” Stewart responded. “‘If I, Donald Trump, was in the files, they would have released it. So clearly, I’m not in the files. But of course, I’m clearly in the files, which makes them phony.’”

The host then played a clip of another of Trump’s many defenses, in which the president claimed his relationship with Epstein was “such old history” and that Epstein had done “something inappropriate.”

“You see, Donald Trump recognized that had finally crossed a line,” Stewart said. “Now, if it were me, obviously giving this explanation in front of reporters, I probably would have stopped there. But, since I am not, Trump went on to describe Epstein’s inappropriate behavior and wait until you hear what is the Rubicon that Epstein crossed.”

“He hired help,” Trump told the reporters. “And I said don’t ever do that again. He stole people that work for me.” Stewart quipped in response, “‘You all know him as Jeffrey Epstein the sex trafficker, but I knew his dark side.’”

Another of Trump defenses included: “By the way, I never went to the island and Bill Clinton went there, supposedly 28 times… I never had the privilege of going to his island. And I did turn it down.”

“The privilege? The fuck?” Stewart said. “‘Hey Donald, you want to go to the island this weekend?’ ‘Well, first of all, Jeffrey, thank you for thinking of me. Unfortunately, that’s the weekend that the teen pageant that I bought is installing the indoor security locker room cameras.’”

Elsewhere in his monologue, Stewart recounted Trump’s experience playing golf in Scotland (including cheating on the course) and the possibility of a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell. He also invited former Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams to discuss Trump’s habit of using notable Black people as a distraction for his antics.
