While a second season of Marvel‘s Hawkeye has yet to be confirmed, Jeremy Renner opened up about why you won’t see him in any follow-ups.

During an interview for the High Performance app, the actor said that he won’t be coming back to the Disney+ series because he was offered “half” of his pay from the first season. “They asked me to do Season Two, and they offered me half the money,” said Renner. “I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount.”

The 54-year-old actor alluded that the reason behind the lower offer was due to his near-fatal 2023 snowplow accident that crushed more than 30 bones in his body. He continued, “I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.’”

“This is not Marvel, mind you. This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney. It’s just the penny pinchers, the accountants,” said the actor, adding, “I told them to go fly a kite. I mean, just at the insult offer.”

The first season of Hawkeye debuted on Disney+ in 2021 and starred Renner alongside Hailee Steinfeld and Florence Pugh. Renner said that while it’s “disheartening that that didn’t happen,” he’s “happy to let that go.” He added, “My body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But we’ll see.”
