The new season of The Last of Us has been notable for several reasons, including the loss of a major character on Sunday night. But the earlier premiere episode featured an unexpected appearance by Friends star Jennifer Aniston via a People magazine from 2003.

Aniston responded to her unlikely cameo in an Instagram Story on Tuesday, writing, “Of all the things to survive the apocalypse 🤣.”

In the episode, written and directed by co-showrunner Craig Mazin, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced) discovered an abandoned store. Ellie falls into the basement, where she discovers the magazine. It’s dated to 2003, which is the year in the story when the societal collapse began. The magazine is a “Best & Worst Dressed” issue that feature Aniston alongside Kate Hudson and Britney Spears.

The second season of The Last of Us premiered earlier this month on HBO. The most recent episode featured (spoiler) the brutal death of Pedro Pascal‘s Joel at the hand of Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby. Like fans, Pascal is still coming to terms with his departure from the series.

It’s not like they said, ‘Hey, we kill you at the beginning of season two,’” Pascal said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “But it was always an understanding that it would stay true to the source material in a specific way and that the, let’s say, practical and exclusive obligation would be for season one. It was just a matter of how and when.”

He added, “I’m in active denial. I realize this more and more as I get older, I find myself slipping into denial that anything is over. I know that I’m forever bonded to so many members of the experience and just have to see them under different circumstances, but never will under the circumstances of playing Joel on The Last of Us. And, no, I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about it because it makes me sad.”
