Sandra Bernhard is set to bring her show, Sandyland: An Evening with Sandra Bernhard, to Australia and New Zealand.
The American comic, actress, and singer will perform in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Thirroul, and Perth before making her New Zealand debut in Auckland next March.
Hailed as a trailblazer of female comedians, Bernhard praised Australia as “grit and glamour for me, a jewel floating in the sea, a dream that merges sharp edges and beautiful breezes.”
“From the epic flight to the rocky beaches, its multicultural landscape, delicious cuisine and beautiful people, you can be sure that when I strut onto those stages, I’ll be ready to give everything. I assure you I will,” she added.
Having gotten her start at The Comedy Store in Hollywood, Bernhard made her television debut on the Richard Pryor Show in 1977. While the show was short-lived, she got her breakthrough role as Masha in the Martin Scorsese’s The King of Comedy which earned her a National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Bernhard refined her stand-up routine into a one-woman show while appearing across TV and film, resulting in her 1988 off-Broadway show – Without You, I’m Nothing, With You, I’m Not Much Better. By 1990, the show had been converted into a film and a double album which received a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album.
With more than five decades worth of experience, Bernhard has most recently appeared in hit shows such as Severance, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Pose, and two seasons of American Horror Story.
