HBO has unveiled the first trailer for its much-anticipated Harry Potter series.
The first episode of the eight-episode season will premiere this Christmas exclusively on HBO Max. Watch the first trailer below.
The trailer gives us our first proper look at the rebooted wizarding world, starting with a young Harry Potter in his grim cupboard under the stairs at the Dursleys. From there, it’s a whirlwind of iconic moments: Hagrid’s arrival, the first trip to Diagon Alley, and the famous run through Platform 9 3/4. We even get the classic line from Ron Weasley on the Hogwarts Express: “Are you really Harry Potter?”
The teaser is packed with quick glimpses of familiar faces and locations, showing off Hogwarts, a Quidditch broomstick, the Sorting Hat, and flashes of Dumbledore, Snape, and Draco Malfoy.
Of course, the biggest reveal is the brand-new cast. Stepping into the massive shoes of the golden trio are Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
Promised as a faithful, book-by-book adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven-part saga, the series is being led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner, with Succession director Mark Mylod helming multiple episodes. Rowling is also on board as an executive producer, alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman, who produced the original film franchise.
