Cher Horowitz might be coming back! On Thursday, Variety and The Wrap reported that Alicia Silverstone will reprise her Clueless role in a sequel series being developed at Peacock.
No plot details were revealed about the series in the reporting, but Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage — the creative team behind Gossip Girl and The OC — are set to write the show with Jordan Weiss, who’s behind Freakier Friday. All three of them will executive produce the series under Fake Empire, with Silverstone also joining as an exec producer, alongside Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the original film, and Robert Lawrence, who produced it.
A rep for Alicia Silverstone did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.
According to Variety, the Clueless comeback is entirely different from the one dropped at the NBCUniversal company back in 2019. That series had another creative team and was supposed to revolve around the disappearance of Cher. In her absence, Cher’s best friend Dionne (originally played by Stacey Dash) is left to fill the popularity vacuum while simultaneously trying to solve the mystery behind Cher’s disappearance.
Directed and written by Amy Heckerling, the original Clueless was released in 1995 and was loosely based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel, Emma. Following the film’s success, a television spin-off premiered the following year and ran for three seasons with Rachel Blanchard playing Cher Horowitz in Silverstone’s place.
Silverstone last reprised her role as Cher in a 2023 Super Bowl ad for Rakuten.
