Bone Thugs-N-Harmony triumphantly took the stage on Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney, making an unexpected appearance after the host failed to book them earlier this year.
The hip-hop group emerged after Mulaney was bested in a fight by three 14-year-old boys and took the opportunity to perform their 1996 hit “The Crossroads.”
In April, Mulaney revealed on the late-night show that he had tried to book Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, but was duped by someone pretending to be their manager. The host told the talk show audience that he had been planning a bit where Richard Kind’s (fake) tortoise died and the rap group showed up and played “The Crossroads.” He spoke to their “manager” via Zoom, but things quickly went amiss.
“I didn’t tell you all this just to air the dirty laundry of what it’s like behind the scenes of a show,” Mulaney said. “Many guests have shaken me down for a couple thousand dollars and then canceled last minute. It happens all the time. I’m telling you about it because I’m genuinely worried. After a little investigating, I have come to believe that the man I was talking to was not the manager of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. In fact, several sites list a different person.”
At the time, Mulaney urged the members of the band to call in to his show to “clear this up.” It seems like someone who is actually involved with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony did call and make this appearance happen. The group also brought out a wrestling belt trophy to award to the boys after they performed.

Last month, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony came back together for “Aww Shit,” their first new song in nearly 15 years. The track featured all the principal Bones — Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, and Flesh-N-Bone — for the first time since 2010’s Uni5: The World’s Enemy. The group also just announced an Australian tour this week set for this October.
“Aww Shit” is heralded as the first single from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s “forthcoming new album,” Greenback Records said. The quintet has also booked a summer’s worth of concerts, including stops at Roots Picnic’s Class of ’95 at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl and stops on the Kings of the West traveling festival. Notably, only four of the band members appeared on Everybody’s Live.
Mulaney recently told Rolling Stone that the music segments of the talk show are his favorite part. “I have to say there’s no part of the show and there’s no part of the week that’s as exciting as when we first rehearse music,” he noted. The host added, “Every artist [on the show] is a favorite of ours. But we were [also] super conscious of just what would be really kinetic on television. It’s as much about knowing that we’re collaborating with people who are going to have strong and great visual ideas and are going to just blow the roof off the studio.”
