Created In Partnership With Stan
If “The Boy In White” or a “Faraway Tree” means nothing to you, we hate to say it, but you’re missing out on the biggest supernatural horror of the last decade. But all is not lost, because mystery drama FROM is still unfolding on Stan right now, meaning there’s still time to get amongst the television show everyone’s raving about.
So, in an ever-expanding streaming landscape, what makes FROM stand out? Created by John Griffin (Crater, Magic: The Gathering) alongside the same producers of Lost, Jack Bender and Jeff Pinkner, the show is filling a very big hole felt by audiences ever since the Oceanic 815 plane crash back in the early noughties. This time, instead of being trapped on an island, the characters of FROM are stuck in an average American town facing circumstances that are anything but.

The series kicks off when the Matthews family — father Jim (Eion Bailey), mother Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno), daughter Julie (Hannah Cheramy) and son Ethan (Simon Webster) — drive into a town they can’t leave. They quickly discover that everyone who lives there isn’t doing so by choice, but because they can’t escape either. And, while being trapped indisputably sucks, that portion of the nightmare isn’t even the worst of it. As the town tries to figure out why they’re trapped here, they must dodge “creatures” that surface from the surrounding forest to taunt them, threaten them… and to make them go just a little bit (a lot) mad.
Come sunset, the town’s sheriff, Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau, who, funnily enough, was also Michael Dawson on Lost), orders everyone inside to stay safe from these monsters who roam the streets. At first, they don’t look so frightening; just everyday neighbours, maybe a few shades paler. But that’s how they trick the town into letting them inside — once they’re close enough, the monsters don’t just kill them, they torture them along the way for their own sick pleasure.

With windows bolted shut to stop the temptation to let them in, it gives audiences the same freakouts as Birdbox while also screwing with your head (and imagination) a la Lost. While it’s from the same producers, the show manages to be vastly different while delivering on that brain-overdrive theorising we’ve all been missing. Oh, and FROM promises better reveals and answers.

As someone who watched Lost and is patiently awaiting FROM Season 4, I’m feeling more confident about a conclusion every time I hear the “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)” theme song by The Pixies. As far as introductions go, it’s one that sets the viewer up to remember that these residents are at the mercy of their surroundings.
So, if you’re as sold as the millions of others who dominate the group chat with their fan theories from this show, the first three seasons of FROM are available only on Stan, with each episode unravelling more pieces of this seemingly never-ending puzzle. Needless to say, you’ll be all caught up for the highly anticipated Season 4 in no time, premiering only on Stan this April 20. Episodes drop weekly, meaning you’ll be part of the brainstorming fun in real time.

FROM might just be the mind-screw you’ve been looking for. Just be warned: you might not be trapped in a town with monsters keeping you up at night, but the mysteries of this show could have your mind wandering past bedtime.
The brand new season of FROM premieres April 20, only on Stan.
