In 2017, Yolŋu rapper Baker Boy burst onto the Australian hip-hop scene, effortlessly fusing his native Yolŋu Matha with English in his rhymes. Now, with the release of his debut album, 'Gela', the "Fresh Prince of Arnhem Land" is set to take his story—and his message—to bold new heights.
Gela, an eponymous statement to Baker’s skin name, is a deeply personal, singular, and joyous listen from front to back.
With his debut album set for release this October, Baker Boy will be celebrating by hitting the road for a long-overdue trek.
"It feels like it has been a really long time in the making," explains Baker Boy. "But I'm glad I took my time because it is a much better body of work for it!"
Describing the single as "a new and improved" version of their previous collaboration "Marryuna", "Ride" is the exuberant anthem we need.
