What Are the Best Bookends for Vinyl?
There are a few things to consider when looking for bookends for your most-played records, from their material to their weight.
Material: You’ll want something that’s not only strong and solid, but also fits your room’s style. A tough material like walnut wood is going to hold up over time, guarding against cracking and corrosion, and steel or metal can survive an accidental fall from a high shelf.
Weight: Having some heft and bulk to these in order to hold everything in place without tipping over is helpful, but not always necessary. Other options with non-slip pads on the bottoms can help keep things firmly planted. These also work well for protecting your shelf from getting damaged.
Size: Even a heavier bookend is a risky thing to use if it’s too short. Because most record covers are 12 x 12 inches, taller is better, and you’ll want something that’s at least around six inches tall.
Design: Little additions like rounded or folded corners can help reduce the risk of scratching and snagging on your albums. You also don’t need to find bookends specifically made for records either. If they’re designed to hold heavy books, that’s even better, as they’ll be strong enough to hold your LPs and other media like video games and DVDs.
Other Uses: Some of these can double as tablet stands or book holders. But for the best ones specifically for records, we’ve selected four of our favorites to proudly display your all-time LPs.
1. MaxGear Tree Design Modern Bookends
This powder-coated pair is instantly eye-catching, with its carved-out tree branch design. The heavy steel holds your records in place, while anti-slip pads keep them from slipping and sliding. At seven inches high, these can handle big books as well, and comes with two sets inside.
2. Musowood Walnut Striped Bookends
This set is made from metal and solid American walnut wood, and has a height that pushes past six inches. They also look great as an addition to your audio setup.
The pair comes with non-slip foam pads for the bottom to reduce sliding. But they also prevent damage to the surface underneath. Plus, with the L-shaped design, you can place these right on the edge of a shelf to give the maximum space for your records.
3. Yalumo Bookends
These L-shaped metal bookends are coated to prevent rust, and they can secure both big LPs and smaller 45s in place. Four non-skid pads line the bottom to hold them in place, and the rounded edges cut down on damage to your shelf when removing a record. Each one measures 6.9 inches tall, giving your records plenty of steady support. They look modern and minimal, with a geometric design that’ll pair well with whatever album you display on each end.
4. MyGift Pipe & Rustic Wood Bookends
We love the look of this set, which features L-shaped torched wood and built-in rustic elbow pipes. A cluttered collection looks instantly organized when sandwiched between these bookends, and they’re easy to adjust thanks to the handle-like pipe decor. Because of their small and lightweight frames, they work better for a smaller stack of records.
