Gallery: Jack Daniel’s Live At Last with Ruby Fields
Ever since it was first announced back in early March that the Jack Daniel’s‘ Live At Last series was set to take over venues across Australia in April, fans knew they were in for something special. But of course, to really appreciate how special this experience was set to be, you had to be there in person to soak up all the action.
That’s exactly what happened for us recently when Perth’s Ruby Fields took over The Espy in Melbourne for a show that fans won’t soon forget.
Having unleashed debut chart-topping album, Been Doin’ It for A Bit, last year, it’s pretty easy to see that Ruby Fields is at the top of her game. Supported by guitarist Adam Newling, Fields’ set was one for the record books, with her charming songwriting and effective musical storytelling setting her performance apart as one of the finest fans will see this year.
“Ruby Fields has the knack,” wrote reviewer Augustus Welby. “Her songs aren’t inventive in a showy way. You’ve doubtless heard the chord changes in ‘Kitchen’ and the crunchy guitar tones in ‘R.E.G.O.’ before. You can anticipate the dynamic crests and plateaus of ‘Trouble’ and hum along, wistfully, to ‘Airport Café’. But Fields’ debut album—last year’s ARIA #1 Been Doin’ It for A Bit—demonstrated the Cronulla-born artist can do sobering and intimate as effectively as loose and angsty.”
In addition to Ruby Fields, Jack Daniel’s Live At Last tour also included shows from Pond in Maroochydore, San Cisco in Brisbane, and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets in Sydney.
Proceeds from Jack Daniel’s Live At Last ticket sales are going to Support Act, the music industry charity that provides crisis relief services to musicians, managers, crew, and other industry personnel.
