Voom have dropped their latest single as the band prepares to deliver their first full album since 2006.
Frontman, vocalist and the only remaining founding member of the band, Buzz Moller, unveiled “I Love You Girl” a tranquil romantic balled alongside guitarist Murray Fisher, bassist Nick Buckton, and drummer Josh Sorenson which builds into high-flying crescendos with an even larger sing-along potential.
Moller’s powerful vocals on the track are given a sinister undertone by the accompanying music video for the single, directed by Fisher, which follows two praying mantis’ on their tragic path toward mating and ends on the female devouring her mate’s head.
It follows the release of “Trouble”, a new single about “wanting something so badly, you’re willing to risk it all”.
Although the two other founding members had left the band by the release of their second album Hello, Are You There in 2006, it quickly became Voom’s biggest hit and earned them a cult-following.
Those fans have long been waiting for the next album in the almost two decades since, which was revealed last month to be titled Something Good Is Happening, and is due out Friday, May 16th via Flying Nun Records.
Birthed from the “hundreds” of demos accumulated over Voom’s lifespan, each track underwent “painstakingly whittling and curating” to form the new album.
“Each track has walked a different path into being a part of this record,” the press release reads, “written and recorded in a variety of locations, with a plethora of different equipment, over decades of seasons and life stages”.
