The lineup for Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House 2024 has been unveiled.
Running from May 24th to June 15th, this music extravaganza is a standout feature of this year’s Vivid Sydney festival, known for highlighting cutting edge artists, innovators, and musicians.
Featuring over 50 Aussie and international artists, including five Australian exclusives, orchestral collaborations, and party collectives, the Opera House will host performances across six venues. Plus, don’t miss the stunning digital artwork on the sails.
Leading the lineup for this year’s festivities is Venezuelan experimental pop sensation Arca, set to deliver an exclusive Australian performance. Known for her groundbreaking music, Arca has collaborated with renowned artists such as Björk, Frank Ocean, and FKA Twigs, and has even composed music for the Museum of Modern Art. Described by Pitchfork as “avant-garde music on the fly, but with the magnetism of a pop star,” ARCA promises to bring a mesmerising experience to Vivid LIVE.
Blood Orange’s Devonté Hynes will be returning to the country for the first time in more than a decade, performing a suite of selected classical works with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by UK’s Matthew Lynch.
French favorites AIR will celebrate the 1998 release of their critically acclaimed album “Moon Safari,” performing hits like “Sexy Boy” and “All I Need” live in full for the first time in 2024.
UK techno titans Underworld return for three nights in the Concert Hall with their genre-shattering tracks, following their electrifying 2019 Vivid performance.
R&B superstar Snoh Aalegra, Swedish rap sensation Yung Lean, Sky Ferreira, and Fever Ray are just some more names on the lineup. Plus, there’ll be parties hosted by Sydney’s vibrant music scenes like House of Mince, Mad Racket, and Astral People.
And 2023 Archibald Prize winner Julia Gutman’s stunning patchworks will light the sails during Vivid Sydney, featuring an accompanying soundtrack by composer and electronic music producer Angus Mills.
Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House is curated for the seventh time by Sydney Opera House’s Head of Contemporary Music Ben Marshall, who shares: “Convention-defying sonic and visual artistry defines Vivid LIVE 2024 with the Australian debuts of the mind-bending Venezuelan electronica paragon Arca, Swedish iconoclast Fever Ray and the next generation of soul, Snoh Aalegra.
“Experience Australian exclusive appearances by French cult favourites AIR performing their iconic Moon Safari in full, UK’s titans of techno and joy Underworld back for three nights and the multi-talented Devonté Hynes with the might of Sydney Symphony Orchestra and conductor Matthew Lynch.
“Behold the Tuareg trailblazers and masters of desert blues, Tinariwen, the enigmatic Sky Ferreira, as well as a host of powerful homegrown visionaries Thelma Plum, Vv Pete, Tasman Keith, BARKAA, Maple Glider, and more. Join us in celebrating the 25th anniversaries and finales of local independent music makers Elefant Tracks and Spunk Records as they leave an indelible mark on the scene with huge one-off parties.
The fiercely talented 2023 Archibald Prize winner Julia Gutman’s stunning animated patchworks ignite the iconic sails each night for Echo, a story of confronting your shadow, in an epic collaboration with fellow Sydney-based creative artists, animation technologists Pleasant Company and musician Angus Mills. I’m thrilled to contribute this Vivid LIVE 2024 program to Vivid Sydney, infusing life and energy into the heart of this city I love so much.”
