Vance Joy has given fans another taste of his forthcoming third studio album with the release of new single “Don’t Fade”.
The chart-topping artist – known to his friends as James Keogh – showcases a fresh new sound on this track, which was produced by hit-making duo Take a Day Trip (Lil Nas X, Kid Cudi, Juice Wrld), Dirty Projectors’ Dave Longstreth (Solange) and long-time collaborators Dave Bassett and Edwin White.
“When we came to produce the song, I had the great fortune to work with Take a Daytrip, Edwin White and David Longstreth (of Dirty Projectors),” Keogh said. “Writing this song was the starting point for my new album. I knew I was on a path somewhere once this song came along.”
Describing the track as a “surprise” that “felt like a special discovery”, Keogh said the track has been in the bank for some time.
“I wrote ‘Don’t Fade’ with my friend and frequent songwriting partner Dave Bassett toward the end of 2019,” Keogh explained. “I like writing about that feeling of timelessness you get when you’re with someone you love.”
The poignant film clip was filmed in Barcelona with a local crew, where Keogh has been living with his partner and, it would seem, muse.
Following on from last year’s “Missing Piece” – which was recently certified double platinum in Australia – “Don’t Fade” features the sweetly catchy chorus: “I could hold you like this, all day / Didn’t get much sleep that’s ok / Not a single thing needs to change / We can be the light that, don’t fade / Baby we can keep our own time.”
“For those of you who joined my live virtual sessions over the last two years I played an early form of it just me and my guitar,” Keogh shared to Instagram earlier this week. “‘Don’t Fade’ is another taste of my forthcoming album which I’m currently putting the finishing touches on.”
Keogh will return to Australian shores for a run of shows in September, but not before he performs a string of festivals across the US, including Bottlerock with Metallica and P!nk, and Beachlife Festival with The Smashing Pumpkins and Stone Temple Pilots.
