Having announced a visit to Australia earlier this year as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations, celebrated English reggae outfit UB40 have officially rescheduled their plans to 2021.
Plotting their dates back in February, the tour was set to see the group perform seven shows in May of this year. Unfortunately, the dats were announced mere weeks before the global COVID-19 pandemic saw shows cancelled, borders closed, the future uncertain, and the shows pushed back until October of 2020.
To make matters worse though, last month brought with it the news that frontman Duncan Campbell (brother of founding vocalist Ali Campbell) had suffered a stroke.
Now, as both fans and band look forward to brighter days, UB40 have officially rescheduled their forthcoming tour, with the new run of dates set to take place across April and May of 2021.
“We always look forward to trips down under, but we know it’s only a temporary delay, we will be back,” the group explained in a statement. “The most important thing is that we all stay safe and we’ll see you on the other side of this ordeal.”
Discussing the topic of Duncan Campbell’s health, the statement notes that he’s showing good signs of a strong speedy recovery. “It was obviously a shock and very worrying when we heard about Duncan having his stroke, but he’s having a well deserved rest and continues to recover at home,” added brother and guitarist Robin Campbell.
Fans who bought tickets to the band’s previously-announced dates are reminded that these passes will remain valid for the recheduled shows, while tour promoters MJR Presents encourage ticket-holders to hold onto their tickets in order to keep supporting the local live music industry.
“We strongly encourage all ticket holders to hang on to their tickets, not just to this show, but to all upcoming tours they’ve had their hearts set on,” explains MJR Presents director Scott Mesiti.
“Keep them on your fridge, or your calendar or your desk as a simple reminder that we’ll get through this, and when we come out the other side, there’s going to be some amazing live music waiting for us.”
