Almost six months on from her last single release, Tones And I has shared “Fly Away”, the first taste of her long-awaited debut album.
A song that has been in the works for a little while, Toni Watson explains that she began writing the tune during Melbourne’s COVID lockdown, co-producing it with Dann Hume. In a press release, Watson explained that the single is about “chasing your dreams, reaching your goals and the realities that comes with it.”
“Being a busker, I obviously had bigger dreams,” she explained. “However, this song is inspired by the way I thought I would feel versus the way I actually feel. I think that’s very powerful, at least to me.
“It’s about genuine happiness and what we think we need to have happiness versus what we actually want. The truth is we only ever want anything because we think it will make us happy, but it’s never that simple.”

Her first single release since “Ur So F**kInG cOoL” in May, “Fly Away” is set to serve as the only single released in 2020 from Tones And I from her debut album. In a press conference in early September, Watson revealed that her album would likely arrive in just a matter of months, though no specific date was given.
Meanwhile, Tones And I is set to embark upon a run of national tour dates in 2021, having previously pushed back the shows from earlier in the year until September, and again until next year. Full touring details are available via the artist’s website.
