He’s performed with some of the world’s most iconic bands, and now legendary bassist Tommy Stinson is set to hit Australian shores in May for a headline tour.
One of the pioneers of the alternative rock genre, Stinson first rose to prominence throughout the ’80s as the bassist for the criminally-overlooked Minneapolis rockers The Replacements. While critically acclaimed for their output, the group’s brushes with widespread never quite got them to the heights they deserved, though their infamous Saturday Night Live performance is one for the history books.
Having first joined the band at the age of 11 in 1979, bassist Tommy Stinson has served as a constant figure of the group ever since, performing on all of their records, and appearing as part of their reunions in 2006 and between 2012 and 2015. Apart from his time in The Replacements though, Stinson has become quite a prolific artist, serving as a solo artist, founding the likes of Bash & Pop and Perfect, and joining outfits such as Guns N’ Roses and Soul Asylum.
Now, though The Replacements’ most recent reunion didn’t make its way down to Australia, Stinson is set to bring his local fans the next nest thing, announcing a run of headline dates earlier today.
Kicking off in Melbourne on May 13th, the tour will see Stinson visit Adelaide, Sydney, Wollongong, and Brisbane, all while joined by You Am I guitarist Davey Lane.
A rare chance to see one of the most unsung yet influential musicians of all time, tickets to the upcoming tour are on sale now.
