Storms, Delays and Coffee: How The Terrys and Nooky Made Their New Track Happen

NSW South Coast’s own The Terrys have teamed up with rapper Nooky for their latest track, “Ghost of Bendigo.”

This high-energy stomper has it all: heavy bass lines, reggae-style keyboards, and catchy whistles, channeling the energy of bands like The Specials.

But the recording process was anything but smooth. “We’ve been threatening to make music with Nooky for years, and it wasn’t until a dark and stormy night a few weeks back that the Gerringong council workers and the mayor of Nowra finally came together to make it happen,” The Terrys share.

“It was agreed that the session was to start at 11am, but Nooky ended up pulling through at 1am the next day…between storms, road closures and parental duties, it felt like the session was destined to fail; however, 29 instant coffees and two hours in a Bowral located Airbnb was all that was needed for this beast of a track to come alive. Produced by the one and only Tasker, the tasker, alongside liquid friends F-POS.”

The music video, directed by Sam Brumby (King Stingray, Julia Jacklin, The Rubens), is a mini-epic. Shot at Parramatta Correctional Centre, it follows Finchie and Nooky as they get themselves into a bank-robbing mess, become cellmates, and pull off a daring escape with a little help from the band.

The Terrys will wrap up 2024 with a performance at Beyond the Valley on Saturday, December 28th. This follows sold-out shows across Australia, the UK, EU, and New Zealand, as well as appearances at Spaced Out Festival, Yours & Owls, NYE on the Hill, Rolling Sets, and Festival of the Sun.

Their second album, Skate Pop, debuted at #2 on ARIA’s Australian Album Chart.

Rolling Stone AU/NZ praised The Terrys’ “breezy pop-rock” sound, noting that Skate Pop “doesn’t deviate much from The Terrys‘ formula of drinking brews, hanging with buds and smoking bud, although dashes of Eighties synth and a harmonica solo on the folksy “Favourite Place” show the band are still capable of adding new colours to a crowd pleasing, if limited, palette.”

The Terrys’ “Ghost of Bendigo” ft. Nooky is out now.
