The Temper Trap are officially back. Nine years since their last release, the ARIA chart-toppers have dropped “Lucky Dimes”, a thundering single that adds a heavier, grittier edge to their signature anthemic sound.

Frontman Dougy Mandagi’s unmistakable vocals cut through a wall of scuzzy guitars and pounding drums, delivering a track already road-tested at recent live shows. Its arrival comes with an adrenaline-charged performance video directed by Melbourne creative Joey Clough.

Produced and co-written with Grammy-nominated hitmaker Styalz Fuego (Troye Sivan, Charli XCX, Khalid) and mixed by English studio heavyweight Spike Stent, “Lucky Dimes” is the first taste of more new music to come.

“Good to know that 9 years after the last one, we still have something to say,” Mandagi said in a statement. “It’s been an absolute pleasure creating this record and we can’t wait to share it with you, not to relive the past but to write the next chapter.”

The release follows a fresh wave of global love for The Temper Trap’s back catalogue. “Sweet Disposition” recently landed at No. 11 in triple j’s Hottest 100 Australian Songs countdown, bolstered by high-profile remixes from John Summit, Vintage Culture, VXSION, and Lost Frequencies.

Their 2009 breakthrough hit and debut album Conditions remain streaming staples, with the band’s catalogue clocking well over a billion plays. Collaborations like “Love Lost” with Mac Miller and Mandagi’s recent feature on a rework of Moby’s “Extreme Ways” have also reintroduced them to a new generation of fans.

Since exploding onto the scene 15 years ago, the Melbourne four-piece have racked up two ARIA No. 1 albums (The Temper Trap and Thick as Thieves), platinum certifications across multiple continents, and played festival main stages from Glastonbury to Lollapalooza.
