As the year comes to a close, so too does the latest season of The Sound, which has today unveiled the details of its ‘Making Gravy Christmas Special’ season finale.
Following in the footsteps of previous broadcasts such as The State of Music, the first season of the show premiered on July 19th, fittingly appearing in the timeslot once occupied by Countdown back in the day. Hosted by former Recovery host Jane Gazzo, alongside triple j’s Bridget Hustwaite, and a special guest most weeks, the program features live music and interviews that fans have long cried out for a return of.
Now, after a stellar first season, The Sound is set to wrap up its second and final run of 2020, with the arrival of its forthcoming Christmas episode.
Announced today, the ‘Making Gravy Christmas Special’ will feature a litany of stunning Aussie artists, performing from locations as far flung as Botswana to Brisbane. Joining the bill for the seasonal special is the likes of Alex the Astronaut, Alex Lahey, Ball Park Music, Vika & Linda, and Dan Sultan with Leah Flanagan. Meanwhile, Baker Boy teams up with both Dallas Woods and Sampa the Great, while The Teskey Brothers perform alongside Orchestra Victoria.
Headlining the holiday event though is none other than the man whose 1996 single gives this episode its name, with the great Paul Kelly making a return visit. Kelly’s segment is set to feature previously unseen live footage, captured at Kelly’s incredible sold-out Gravy show at The Domain, Sydney.
While there’s currently no details as to when or if The Sound will be making a return in 2020, an accompanying press release leaves hopes raised by noting that organisers “look forward to doing it all again”.
The Sound is set to broadcast at 6pm on Sunday, December 20th, with an encore performance available on both iview, and the ABC on the following Saturday.
