ABC’s new addition, The Sound, is proving itself to be one of the most immersive programs on the weekend viewing schedule, announcing a stacked lineup for its fourth episode.

Following in the footsteps of previous broadcasts such as The State of Music, the show premiered on July 19th, fittingly appearing in the timeslot once occupied by Countdown back in the day. Hosted by former Recovery host Jane Gazzo, alongside Double J Mornings host Zan Rowe, and a special guest each week, the program features live music and interviews that fans have long cried out for a return of.

So far, some of Australia’s biggest and most respected creatives have appeared on the show, ranging from Nick Cave, DMA’S, James Reyne, Cub Sport, Amy Shark, and the masterful collaboration of Paul Kelly and Paul Grabowsky.

Now, The Sound has revealed that this week is set to be one of their biggest yet, with co-hosting duties being taken on by Myf Warhurst, and the inclusion of an exclusive interview with Kylie Minogue, who recently announced her new album.

Meanwhile, the episode will feature a tribute to The Easybeats with John Paul Young and friends, a ‘From the Vault’ broadcast of Yothu Yindi, and performances from the likes of Illy, G Flip, Washington, Hockey Dad, and Kian, with an introductory spotlight on Melbourne’s D’Arcy Spiller.

“‘I’m really happy to be performing on The Sound,” Illy said of his inclusion on the lineup. “In the tradition of great Australian music shows like Countdown, it’s amazing to have the opportunity to showcase the broad range of talent in the Australian music scene.”

“Back on an ABC pop show!” echoed an enthusiastic John Paul Young. “It’s been 37 years since my last appearance on Countdown, it’s an absolute joy to be a part of the ABC’s ongoing commitment to Australian music.”

The Sound is set to broadcast at 5:30pm on Sunday, August 9th, with an encore performance available on both iview, and the ABC on the following Saturday.
