The Rubens have returned with another striking new single, “Black Balloon”.
The band’s econd release of the year after “Liquid Gold” follows their 2023 releases “Pets and Drugs” and “Good Mood”. The track was produced by renowned two-time ARIA Award-winning producer and songwriter Konstantin Kersting (Genesis Owusu, Spacey Jane).
The expertly layered “Black Balloon” explores very personal and complicated topics of self-implosion and detachment from reality, but The Rubens do a great job keeping the track catchy and upbeat.
“It’s ok to be a little anti-nostalgia. Yesterday was good and it was bad; right now is good and it is bad; tomorrow will be good and it will be bad. Take off the rose-tinted glasses and be here,” the band say about their new single.
“Black Balloon” is accompanied by an atmospheric music video directed by Kyle Caulfield (G Flip, Peach PRC), which you can watch below.
The Rubens are keeping themselves busy this year as they’re about to kick off their Queensland tour with support from Sunshine Coast’s Betty Taylor. The tour begins on Friday, March 3rd at a sold-out Port Douglas Yacht Club. Check out the rest of their Queensland tour dates below.
It’s not the band’s first time on tour this year, The Rubens having performed 13 shows in January along Australia’s east coast, moving over 10,000 tickets in the process.
The Rubens’ “Black Balloon” is out now via Ivy League Records.
