The Kid LAROI has dropped another taste of his new album, The First Time. Titled “Kids Are Growing Up (Part 1)”, the deeply personal track sees the rapper reflecting on the pains of growing up, remembering those early days when he dreamed of being in the position he occupies now.

“Growing up, I watched my favourite rappers’ interviews ? I ain’t believe ’em when they said, ‘It ain’t all what it seems’ / But now I’m here, realised they were tellin’ truth,” he raps with sincerity.

In the accompanying music video – directed by Ramez Silyan – LAROI journeys through several momentous scenes from his youth, including measuring his height against a wall, partying and rebelling with friends, and visiting a family member’s grave.

“Kids Are Growing Up (Part 1)” lasts a thrifty two minutes, but its impact is still felt; it might be LAROI’s most self-reflective track to date. You can watch the full clip below.

The track follows “I Can’t Go Back to the Way It Was (Intro)”, which LAROI shared late last month, and “Love Again”, with the latter reaching the top 40 in the US and Australia.

Both tracks will feature on The First Time, which will be the follow-up to his acclaimed 2020 mixtape F*ck Love, which topped charts around the world, including in his home country and the U.S..

While the album’s first singles are out, there’s still no official release date for the full album, with LAROI only hinting that it will be “coming soon.”

The Kid LAROI has a busy period ahead of him: alongside the release of The First Time, he’s confirmed as one of the performers at this year’s Coachella. He appears on the 2023 lineup alongside stars like Bad Bunny, Frank Ocean and BLACKPINK. LAROI will perform on the Saturday, accompanied by the likes of Rosalía and Charli XCX.
